Thai baht (THB)

The baht is the official currency of Thailand. The Thai symbol for the baht is (บาท), the sign is (฿) and the official abbreviation is (THB). A single baht is divided into 100 satang. The Thai symbol for a satang is (สตางค์). The baht was originally called the tical, until baht was became the Thai name in the 19th century. Baht and tical were both originally weight units used to describe gold and silver measurements.

Coins

Thai coins are issued by the Bank of Thailand in denominations of 1 satang, 5 satang, 10 satang, 25 satang, 50 stang, ฿1, ฿2, ฿5, ฿10. The 1, 5 and 10 satangs are rarely seen in daily use. The coins are sized according to the following specifications:

1 satang: 15 millimetres
5 satang: 16.5 millimetres
10 satang: 17.5 millimetres
25 satang: 16 millimetres
50 satang: 18 millimetres
1 baht: 20 millimetres
2 baht: 21.75 millimetres
5 baht: 24 millimetres
10 baht: 26 millimetres

Banknotes

Thai banknotes are issued by the Bank of Thailand in denominations of 20 baht, 50 baht, 100 baht, 500 baht, and 1000 baht. The banknotes are sized and colour-coded according to the following specifications:

20 baht: Green – 138 x 77 millimetres
50 baht: Blue – 144 x 77 millimetres
100 baht: Red - 150 x 72 millimetres
500 baht: Purple – 156 x 72 millimetres
1000 baht: Gray – 162 x 72 millimetres

Although there is also a 10 baht banknote, it is rarely used in daily transactions.
