Singapore dollar (SGD)

The Singapore dollar is the official currency of Singapore. The sign for the Singapore dollar is ($), and the offical abbreviation is (SGD). Domestically, the Singapore dollar is most commonly abbreviated with the dollar sign $, however sometimes an S i placed in fron of the dollar sign (S$) to distinguish it from other dollar currencies such as the US Dollar. The Singapore dollar is subdivided into 100 cents.

Coins

Coins of Singapore are issued by the Monetary Authority of Singapore in denominations of 1 cent, 5 cents, 10 cents, 20 cents, 50 cents, and 1 dollar. Although the 1 cent coin is no longer minted or issued, it is still considered legal tender, but it is rarely seen in daily usage. The composition and size of the coins is denoted below:

1 cent: 17.78 millimetres – Bronze or Copper-Clad Steel
5 cents: 16.26 millimetres – Cupronickel or Cupronickle - Clad Steel
10 cents: 19.41 millimetres – Aluminium
20 cents: 23.6 millimetres – Cupronickel
50 cents: 27.76 millimetres – Cupro-nickel
1 dollar: 33.32 millimetres – Cupro-nickel

Banknotes

Banknotes are issued by the Monetary Authority of Singapore in the denominations of $1, $2. $5, $10. $20, $25, $50, $100, $500, $100, and $10000. The $2, $5, $10, and $50 denominations are the mst frequently used, and the $25 denomination is a commemorative issue that is rarely seen. The banknotes are colour-coded and sized in the following manner:

$2: Purple – 126 x 63 millimetres
$5: Green – 133 x 66 millimetres
$10: Red – 141 x 69 millimetres
$50: Blue – 156 x 74 millimetres
$100: Orange – 162 x 77 millimetres
$1,000: Pink – 170 x 83 millimetres
$10,000: Gold – 180 x 90 millimetres
