Polish złoty (PLN)

The złoty, is the official currency of Poland. The term złoty literally means "golden". It's sign is (zł) and the official ISO currency code is (PLN). The modern złoty is divided into 100 groszy, the singular form of grosczy is grosze. Due to hyperinflation, the currency has undergone redenomination, changing from zlotych (PLZ) to Zloty (PLN). During this process, 10,000 zlotych became 1 new zloty to solve the hyperinflation problem.

Coins

Coins issued by the National Bank of Poland circulate in denominations of 1 grosz, 2 grosze, 5 groszy, 10 groszy, 20 groszy, 50 groszcy, 1 zł, 2 zł, and 5 zł. The coins are sized according to the following specifications:

1 groscz: 15.5 millimetres
2 grosze: 17.5 millimetres
5 groszy: 19 5 millimetres
10 groszy: 16.5 millimetres
20 groszy: 18.5 millimetres
50 groszy: 20.5 millimetres
1 zł: 23 millimetres
2 zł: 21.5 millimetres
5 zł: 24 millimetres

Banknotes

Polish banknotes are issued by the Naitonal Bank of Poland, and circulate in the denominations of 10 zł, 20 zł, 50 zł, 100 zł, 200 zł. The banknotes are colour-coded and sized according to the following specifications:

10 zł: Brown – 120 x 60 millimetres
20 zł: Violet/ Pink - 126 x 63 millimetres
50 zł: Dark Blue - 132 x 66
100 zł: Dark Green - 138 x 69 millimetres
200 zł: Brown/ Orange - 144 x 72 millimetres

There are also three commemorative banknotes in the denominations of:

10 zł: Pink/ Orange
20 zł: Orange/ Yellow/ Brown
50 zł: Blue/ Yellow
