Lithuanian litas (LTL)

The Lithuanian litas (LTL) (Lt) the official currency of Lithuania. The plural form of litas is litai or litų. A single litas is sub-divided into 100 centų, (singular form centas, and plural form - centai). The litas is pegged to the euro, and was scheduled to be replaced by the euro by the beginning of 2010, however recent hyperinflation has delayed this transition to a possible 2013 date.

Coins

Lithuanian coins circulate in denominations of 1 centas, 2 centai, 5 centai, 10 centu, 20 centu , 50 centu, 1 litai, 2 litai, and 5 litai. Lithuanian coins are comprised of aluminum, copper, zinc, and nickel. The 1, 2 and 5 centai are made of aluminum, while the greater valued coins are comprised of a gold-plated copper, zinc, nickel composite. The following information denotes the diameter of each coin:

1 centas:18.75 millimetres
2 centai: 21.75 millimetres
5 centai: 24.40 millimetres
10 centu: 17 millimetres
20 centu: 20.5 millimetres
50 centu: 23 milimetres
1 litai: 22.3 millimetres
2 litai: 25 millimetres
5 litai: 27.5 millimetres

Banknotes

Lithuanian banknotes circulate in the denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 litų. The litas banknotes are colour-coded according to the following specifications.

1 Lt: Pink/ Grey/ Blue/ Beige
2 Lt: Turquoise/ Pink
5 Lt: Purple/ Blue
10 Lt: Blue/Orange
20 Lt: Violet/ Auburn Red
50 Lt: Orange/ Green/ Grey
100 Lt: Teal/ Orange/ Green
200 Lt: Blue/ Aqua/ White
500 Lt: Violet/ Burgundy/ Purple

The 1 Lt banknotes are rarely seen in circulation. Among the most commonly used banknotes are the 10 and 50 Lt.
