Danish Krone (DKK)

The krone (kr) or (DKK) is the official currency of Denmark, and it's autonomous provinces of the Faroe Islands and Greenland. The plural form of krone is "kroner" and a single krone is sub-divided into 100 øre. The singular form of øre is written the same as the plural form. The krone is pegged to the euro through the European Union's exchange rate mechanism. The official abbreviation is DKK, however it is abbreviated locally as “Kr”. Sometimes variations such as Dkr or DKR are used, however these abbreviations are not official. Since krone means crown in Danish, the currency is often referred to as the Danish crown when mentioned in the English language.

Coins

Krone coins are issued by the Danish National Bank. The following information denotes the diameter and composition of each coin that is currently in circulation:

50 øre: Bronze – 21.5 millimetres
1 krone: Bronze - 20.25 millimetres
2 kroner: Nickel - 24.5 millimetres
5 kroner: Nickel – 28.5 millimetres
10 kroner: Aluminum – 23.35 millimetres
20 kroner: Aluminum – 27 millimetres

Banknotes

The following information denotes the size and color of the current Danish banknotes.

50 kroner: Purple – 125x72 millimetres
100 kroner: Orange – 135x72 millimetres
200 kroner: Green – 145x72 millimetres
500 kroner: Blue – 155x72 millimetres
100 kroner: Red - 165x72 millimetres

Note: The 10 and 20 krone notes are not commonly used as they have been replaced by coins, however they are still considered legal tender.
