Bulgarian Lev (BGN)

The Bulgarian Lev is is the official currency of Bulgaria and has the currency code BGN. The Bulgarian Lev is fixed to the Euro, and in 2012 Bulgaria is expected adopt the Euro as their official currency.

The Lev is divided into one hundred Stotinka and coins come in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 Stotinkas. There is also a coin that is worth 1 Lev, which has replaced the 1 Lev banknote in every day usage. The 1, 2 and 5 Stotinka coins are bronze-colored, and the 10, 20 and 50 Stotinka coins are silver -colored. The Bulgarian banknotes are sized differently and color coded.

The 1 Lev coin is silver in the center with a bronze outer rim and a serrated edge. The 1, 2, and 5 Stotinka coins are made of pure brass, while any Stotinka coins above these values are made of Nickel-Brass.

The Bulgarian Lev banknotes are printed in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000, 5000, 10000, and 50,000 Leva. Leva is the plural term for Lev.

1 Lev – Red – 112 x 60 millimetres
2 Leva – Violet – 116 x 64 millimetres
5 Leva – Red – 121 x 67 millimetres
10 Leva – Green - 126 x 70 millimetres

50 Leva – Brown – 136 x 76 millimetres
100 Leva – Green – 141 x 79 millimetres
